2nd music video deconstruction

The opening shot of this music video was a panning shot, this was in order to involve everyone that was in the video to be seen at the beginning so that it sets the genre of music. The genre of music is also presented by the mise en scene, the clothing that they are wearing is dark, street and “chavvy” this shows that it is a rap music video as the blackness presents the dark streets and the people in the background shows a sign of being a gang.

Having this close up angle creates intimidation and violence which represents the stereotypical overall thought on what rap is as the black clothing shows “death” or that they are trying to hide in the dark to attack. The lyrics match the actions of what he is doing to show that it is currently illustrative and there is a story along with the song. Having the black background and black clothing shows a flow of mise en scene to create the stereotypical image of the genre of music and the type of people they are.

This shows a panning shot back through the people it showed at the beginning, they surround the rapper “JME” as a way to show him as the main person in the song and maybe to show that he is the “leader” of the gang that they are supposedly in. Their stern faces present seriousness and their strong feeling towards the song, it also links to the name of the video “man don’t care”. The way it goes light on JME is a way to show that he is the main focus also.

The mise en scene that they used here creates a modern look as it is targeting the younger generation that listen to and enjoy this music. They use a side on shot to get them both in it so the audience can see how they are presenting themselves. This is because they are taking a “selfie” and using childish poses to try and add a comic side to the video as they are known to be “thugs”.

The colour adds more of a different look to the video as it doesn’t relate to the genre of music that his is rapping too. It creates a focus towards the lyrics of the song to make it illustrative. It creates a childish feel to it as if they are trying to educate people into how they use words and letters.

They use simple props to add interesting scenes to the song but it also gets represented in the lyrics. The lyrics are also well used as they use effective props to identify what they use in music for example: the “ABC” blocks and the microphone. But also the flame could identify danger for their “street style” but also towards their music saying that it is a big hit and that they feel they are taking over. It is clever for them to use red and black together as they’re colours that work well together and also that relate to the genre of the music. Yet again setting alight to something shows that “man don’t care”

They use another panning shot to go through the gang to show that they are still there. Also the bright spotlight shows that they are changing rapper but they made it quite “game show” like to add a sense of humour to it but it is also quite serious due to their facial expressions and the way they are standing.

As they come back to the person that is rapping they use another close up to show that the different rapper is also intimidating as a way to show they are all intimidating. The actions he does makes out like he is acting to the lyrics.

Yet again a simple use of props creates the illustrative image to the lyrics which draws in the viewer. Having these different props makes the video more interesting. The mid shot is used to show that there is a colour match and that it is still aggressive.

The use of iron man keeps the theme of action figures/famous movies with batman being used also.

These two images show the uniqueness of the video and the way it was produced as there is humour in it with the fake dreads/rasta look making a comical feel to it but when they are taken off the facial expression is a very serious look making out like it wasn’t a joke or when he’s his self he is a serious person but when in a funny role he’s ok.

The close up panning shot in this video presents that they are all together throughout it but also to show the two rappers together that were together. The red identifies danger and intimidation again with the close up. It is also to show the progression between the beginning and the end, with the panning shot being used for both shots.
